Katy Allen-Nyenbrink
Katy Allen-Nyenbrink has been serving dance team community for over 20 years. She most recently was the Head Coach of the Grand Valley State University Dance Team from 2012-2024 leading the team to 15 National Titles. She was nominated 2024 College Coach of the Year by the NDCA.
Katy has been a dance educator for 30 years, working as a dance instructor, choreographer, curriculum coordinator, coach, studio manager, and educator. Her career began as a dance educator and grew to include coaching and mentoring. She currently manages, teaches, and choreographs for the pre-professional competitive program at Body Language Dance Company in Jenison, Michigan. She also works as a choreographer and master teacher for Zeeland High Schools Fine Arts Dance Program in Zeeland, Michigan. Over the last three years she has had the privilege of working with Hope College in Holland, Michigan in their Dance Department and with their newly formed Dance Team. She also works as an independent choreographer, teacher, and judge.
One of Katy’s passions is mentoring other coaches, dance educators, and aspiring dancers. She has spoken at coaches’ conference’s, has helped to build programs and curriculums, and advises young educators and dancers.
Katy holds a B.S. in Education and Science from Grand Valley State University and is certified in Acrobatic Arts. She previously taught in Alternative Education and as a Science Instructor. She resides in Grand Haven, MI with her husband , and 13 year old twin daughters.
